President, Platform Media
Bio
I own Platform Media & Management, a company that represents social media influencers—people who have large social media followings. But I like to call them digital storytellers because they share their lives via beautiful photography and well-written and thoughtful blogs.
It’s then our job to build their business by connecting them with brands for paid partnerships that are authentic, and best suit the story they are telling, so they can keep sharing their unique lives with their followers.
About this episode
Once in a blue moon, you stumble across someone on Instagram who speaks to your soul and it reminds you how connective this app really is! Connection is exactly what today's guest, Sara Koonar, has cultivated with me and many others on social media. I started following her after I saw one of her stories in which she was talking about the importance of diversity, inclusion and representation in influencer marketing and on social media in general, and I haven't looked back since!
It wasn't until a few weeks later that I found out she is an incredibly successful entrepreneur and an advocate for small, local businesses. She has literally built an entire brand and company centred around ensuring creators are seen, heard and paid for their content - which is pretty amazing!
She's also downright one of the nicest humans and is so easy to talk to! It was wonderful to interview her.
Here's what we covered on today's episode:
- Sara’s entrepreneurial journey and the creation of Platform Media
- The evolution of Influencer Marketing
- Tips for people/businesses trying to grow their followings and monetize their social media accounts through partnerships and collaborations.
- The catalyst that led to brands finally becoming more inclusive in their campaigns
- The impacts of COVID restrictions on small businesses and how we can help
