Reiki is an incredibly supportive practice for anyone on a Self-Healing journey. It supports the release of stagnant energy built up in the body and around the various chakras while restoring a natural flow. Natalie has been a certified Usui Reiki Practitioner for over two years and has a part-time practice in a beautiful office space in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

About Energy Healing & Reiki

Reiki is an ancient Japanese energy healing technique that works holistically to target the mind, body and spirit. The objective of Reiki is to reduce stress and pain while clearing emotional blockages and promoting healing from within.

Reiki treatments consist of the practitioner acting as a conduit between the client and the earth, allowing universal life force energy to flow by lightly laying hands in various positions on the client’s body.

What to Expect at Your Reiki Session

Before Your Appointment

In my experience, Reiki works best when you are in a calm and receptive state, emotionally, and when you feel comfortable and safe physically.

To support this, I suggest that ahead of your appointment, you:

Refrain from consuming caffeine, heavy foods and alcohol for at least eight hours before your appointment

Drink lots of water in the days leading up to your appointment.

Dress in comfortable clothing that you can fully relax in. Note: You will remain fully clothed during your session.

Give yourself plenty of time to make it to your appointment, so you don’t arrive stressed. If you’re a few minutes late, that’s okay!

During your Appointment

I offer a unique combination of guided meditation, chakra balancing and Reiki healing during each session.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • You will arrive at the appointment wearing a mask and it will be requested that you sanitize your hands. I will also be wearing a mask for the duration of the appointment.

 

  • The room will be sanitized and set with dim lighting and calming music

 

  • Optional: If specified on your intake form, essential oils will be diffused.

 

  • You will meet with me briefly for a COVID screening and to discuss any items that I require clarification about on your intake form

 

  • You will lay fully clothed on a massage bed. Sheets will be changed between each client.

 

  • Optional: If specified on your intake form, a clean eye pillow will be placed over your eyes (feel free to bring an eye covering of your own if you would be more comfortable).

 

  • Optional: If specified on your intake form, I will use sage (either a spray or burned) to cleanse the space and your energy.
  • Optional: If specified on your intake form, after a body scan, I will place various healing crystals on the chakras I sense need support balancing during the session.

 

  • I will then lead you in a short breathing exercise and meditation to help you relax.

 

  • Following the meditation, I will begin the Reiki treatment which consists of light hands-on healing throughout the entire body. Many people fall asleep during the session. This does not take away from the effects of the healing.

 

  • Following the healing portion of the session, I will lead you in another short meditation to support you in releasing any thoughts, feelings, energy or behaviours that are no longer serving you.

 

  • I will share any insights with you following your appointment.
After your Appointment

If possible, try to remain in as calm a state as possible after your appointment and schedule time to rest. You may feel drowsy and/or tired after a Reiki session. Refrain from drinking alcohol for 12+ hours after Reiki. Drink lots of water, take moments to focus on your breath, eat healthy nourishing foods and move your body intuitively through exercise, yoga and/or dance to keep the energy flowing.

Reiki Evidence

While many people still view Reiki as ‘woo-woo’, there is actually plenty of evidence that supports its effectiveness in promoting healing.

A 2017 review by Dr. David E McManus in the Journal of Evidence-Based Complementary Medicine, cites Reiki as ‘better than placebo and has broad potential as a complementary health therapy’.

More from this study: “From the information currently available, Reiki is a safe and gentle “complementary” therapy that activates the parasympathetic nervous system to heal body and mind. It has the potential for broader use in the management of chronic health conditions, and possibly in postoperative recovery”.
