Bio

For the last decade, Meagan has worked in the marketing agency world, with the majority of that time spent in healthcare marketing, where she worked with large pharmaceutical clients in the US. It was here that she experienced firsthand the massive impact that pharma companies have on the lives of patients, and our healthcare systems - for both the better and the worse.

As a type1 diabetic, Meagan’s life relies completely on pharmaceutical products, but the rate of chronic illness today is growing at an unsustainable rate. More and more people are relying on medications for sometimes a multitude of conditions, many of which are preventable and/or treatable through holistic approaches, like healthy nutrition, and behavioural changes. It was only when Meagan started to explore her own health challenges more deeply, that she realized how much competing and conflicting information is out there, and how alienating, frustrating, and often cost-prohibitive it is to navigate our healthcare system today.

Meagan believes in a world where western medicine can live harmoniously with holistic practices. Our bodies and minds are capable of so much more than we could ever imagine, and with the right education, and the loving support of the community, we can prevent and heal so many of the ailments that face us today.

About this episode

One of my biggest fears around sharing my journey and starting ‘Mind Your Own’ was that I would come across as ‘anti-medication’ – or that my belief systems around mindset-work would be taken the wrong way for people who are ill and reliant on pharmaceuticals. This is definitely not the case. I have immense respect for the medical profession.  So many people in my life have received life-saving pharmaceuticals and treatment for serious health concerns. The medications for MS, specifically, are instrumental for many people who have the disease to regain function – which I am so grateful for. I do believe, however, that taking medication is not the only thing we need to do to improve our health outcomes. We must be active participants in our healing- which is what this episode is all about!

In this episode, I introduce you to Meagan Hardy. Meagan is a wonderful example of someone who has taken her healing into her own hands, in combination with the medication she takes every day that keeps her alive.

Meagan Hardy was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at age eight. Having lived with a dis-ease most of her life, she has gone through many stages in how she has managed the illness; beginning with avoidance and eventually leading to education and acceptance. Meagan believes in holistic alternative lifestyle approaches to complement Western medicine which has made a real difference for her. Recently she co-founded a company called Clean Beauty Forum- an online health community for women to share information and experiences in relation to health, wellness & clean beauty. I’m so excited for you to hear Meagan’s story!

We talk about:

  • Empowered action towards better health, in combination with Western Medicine is key
  • Your work should not make you sicker
  • Talking about our health with our peers is a game-change
